The Ranger was introduced in mid-1982 for the 1983 model year and had an available 4-cylinder 59 hp 2.2 L Mazda/Perkins diesel. In 1985, a Mitsubishi-built 2.3 L turbodiesel with 86 hp replaced the Mazda diesel engine. The diesels were no longer an option after 1987.
Few reasons really. 1. The 3rd gen Mazda 6 looks way better than the 5-Series of the same age. 2. I wouldn't be able to afford a BMW of the same age and mileage. 3. The Mazda 6 interior is pretty lush and plenty of toys on top of the range for half the price. 4. I don't like Mercedes.
Ive had my 2016 (34k) Mazda 6 2.2 Diesel SportNav for 9 months and driven it about 7000 miles now - about 70 percent motorway driving. Ive had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever other than the tire pressure light coming on maybe 5 times due to the alloy letting air out the tyre (hardly the cars fault).
There was a big range of engines used in this model CX-5, but the short answer is a very simple one. It doesn’t matter whether your CX-5 has the 2.0 or 2.5-litre (turbo or non-turbo) or even the turbo-diesel engine option, the engine uses a maintenance-free timing chain rather than a rubber toothed belt.
For the Mazda CX7 2.3 litre engine and its turbocharger (as it is with most modern turbocharged vehicles), regular servicing is ESSENTIAL. This is ESPECIALLY so for the CX7 2.3L Turbo engine. And the most critical need is for the oil and filter to be changed at EVERY service.
Before we discuss the Mazda CX 5 problems let’s see the fuel economy numbers. The naturally aspirated engine is delivering 25 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined. The turbocharged version is delivering 22 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg overall fuel economy.
